Creativity & Cognition
Overview
Creativity and Cognition Studios (CCS) are committed to promoting an innovation culture by investigating humancomputer systems and the positive interventions that technology can make in order to encourage individual and organisational innovation. Creativity and Cognition Studios arose from a concern for the intersection of art and technology that Ernest Edmonds and others first developed in the late 1960s. The concern flowered with the instigation of the Creativity and Cognition conference series by Ernest Edmonds and Linda Candy in 1993.
Research Projects
CCS is conducting research by providing an Internationally
recognised multi-disciplinary environment for the advancement and understanding
of digital media and creative practice. It provides artists and technologists
with a space in which to collaborate, experiment and create, as equal
partners, in practice-based research.
Interactive Spaces
Cybernetic art systems involving physical participation and interaction. Technology enhanced and enabled performance. Research into interactive art systems in physical spaces and distributed interactive spaces and into the technology of such systems.
Generative Systems
Algorithmic and evolutionary art. Media integration. Research into generative art, both visual and sonic, and into the cellular automata and logics that enable their creation.
Digital Worlds
Digital and interactive new media. Internet enabled and enhanced creative communities. Research into the impact of and developments in digital technologies for creative practice and creative communities.
Creative Process
The nature of individual and collaborative creative processes. Changes to practice and modes of learning. Research into the psychological and social processes of creativity and the impact on them of digital media developments.
