Tim O'Neill of IICT Architecture-based Engineering Group attended the Open Group's European Architecture Practitioners COnference (APC) in Dublin, Ireland, 25-27 April. The APC focuses upon the need to define the role of the IT Architect, including the core competencies that are required which enable the IT Architect to hold the unique position.
With over 300 of the leading architectural practitioners from Europe attending, it is fast becoming THE conference in this area. Presentations are by invitation only and Tim was lucky enough to be invited to give two (2) presentations to the group.
His first humorous presentation entitled "Enterprise Architecture: It's Not Just Art for Art's Sake" was warmly received by over 100 attendees and his second presentation, a demonstration of the revolutionary ABACUS toolset (developed by the UTS spin-off Avolution Pty Ltd - http://www.avolution.com.au), closed out the conference on a high note. Tim had collaborative discussions with attendees from organisation's such as IBM, Fujitsu, PwC, Vodafone, Siemens, HSBC, Sun, HP, Accenture and Boeing and was invited to present to the broader PwC group in London a few days later.
Tim has subsequently been invited to make 2 presentations to The Open Group's US Architecture Practitioners Conference (APC) in New York in July so it looks like back to the "the city that never sleeps" for "the research group that never sleeps".
